There is much debate swirling around the HCG Diet. Every diet has its supporters and its detractors. The controversy in this case is compounded by the fact that there is no published data to medically examine either side of the argument.
What is HCG?
HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG is a protein-rich hormone. It is produced by placenta cells. A liquid form of this hormone can be bought in oral form or taken by injection. HCG can be used for weight loss purposes. HCG sends a message to the brain requesting it to break down the fats in the body. HCG can increase the metabolism rate of the body. It can cause the calories in the body to burn at a faster rate.
The HCG Diet
To encourage weight loss, HCG hormones are used in conjunction with a sensible diet program. For weight loss purposes, HCG is sold in form of oral supplements and injections. Any person participating in the HCG Diet takes HCG diet drops or injections and takes a maximum of 500 calories per day. A maximum of 200 i.u’s. of HCG weight loss drops daily may be consumed or injected by any person who is on on the HCG diet. The HCG is consumed by participants for 30-40 days.
Participants are expected to exercise. For instance, a person should walk for at least 30 minutes a day. Participants should drink plenty of fresh water and need to not consume sugars and starches while on this diet. Oral appetite suppressants may be used for some version of this diet.
Some HCG diet participants complain of insomnia, headaches, and weakness but these negative effects tend not to last for long periods of time.
